Why? Well, for one, I was getting tired of RPG Maker gameplay. Two, because first prototype of the game was very much not to my satisfaction. Until I get inspired on how to proceed with Renan's story, I decided to put my focus on the side project I mentioned in recent posts.

And here we are: I present you my side project: Record of Asturion War. It's not an JRPG like Divinion, but SRPG in vein of Fire Emblem games. If you're familiar with the series, you'll find yourself right at home.

Now, is there a H-content in this? of course there is. However, the game is purposefully divided into two parts: until second one starts, you'll find no trace of adult themes in the game (aside from a few swearwords). This is done on purpose and with premeditation on my part.

In a way, this is a return to roots for me. The Dark Lord Rises was initially to be a game with heavy emphasis on corruption and transformations of heroines; story there went different way, but this one will not.

Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy the game. Version 0.1 has 38 chapters; I am aiming to have story finish around 65-70th chapter, so there is and will be a lot to play with. Hopefully, part one won't bore you before you get to the meaty parts.

DarkLordRiseshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03348387181419969429noreply@blogger.com26tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1783882296473723006.post-65295220801477895762020-05-28T21:14:00.000+02:002020-05-28T21:14:03.221+02:00Dark Lord Rises 1.0.0Hello guys, a little surprise here - an update to the first game in the series, The Dark Lord Rises.

I say little, because despite large jump in version number, this update brings mostly bugfixes and corrections to bring names and lore in line with Divinion and incoming third, final game. There is some new content added - in particular, in Avonlica, before the story really kicks in - but not enough for me to recommend another playthrough for those who completed TDLR already.

Yeah, I replayed the game just recently, in order to remember some plot points and nuances. Boy, I came long way since when I started.

You can find download link to the completed version of the game on the side panel.

And now - back to development of the last game!DarkLordRiseshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03348387181419969429noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1783882296473723006.post-52518946717088077032020-05-06T16:47:00.002+02:002020-05-06T16:47:50.128+02:00State of the Game - May

Hello guys, long time no see. It's been year since initial release of Divinion and I wanted to share with you a few words where do i stand with development.

Now, my progress is not as good as I'd like, but steadily, the final title in Renan's saga is taking shape. My main problem for now is balancing more erotic elements and proper storytelling. Divinion certainly lacked in the "ero" part, which I seek to remedy in final release. You can expect many more H-scenes, of more different variety. Though, as I mentioned in ony of my previous posts, the game will not follow totally "evil" route, Renan will have his share of bedmates, including many returning characters. Because yes, we are finally returning to Resticia, and it's time for Alba class to reunite... kind of. Sort of.

Another difference from Divinion, the game will offer less freedom to player - in the end, from what I gathered, open structure caused a bit too much confusion among players, and was source of many unnecessary bugs. The final game will definitely be more stramlined, with quality over quantity approach. I've finally settled down on battle system, and it's way better than default JRPG style that comes with RPG Maker. In fact, I am currently experimenting a bit with various concepts in hope of spicing the second half of the game with some interesting variety.

For now, I will be safe and predict release date on Christmas. Depending on this while coronavirus situation, it might be sped up or delayed - hard to tell at this point.

That's all for today. Stay tuned for next update!DarkLordRiseshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03348387181419969429noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1783882296473723006.post-65363331875522136302020-02-26T21:09:00.000+01:002020-02-26T21:10:01.678+01:00Divinion 2.0.1

Hello guys. Here the new update, containing fixes for some issues plaguing last release of Divinion.

- Fixed a bug on a second floor of the Black Tower (if player initially refused to jump, game wouldn't progress on second attempt).

-Rebalanced actor initiative stats. Now at least some of early game fights won't end with enemy barriage right off the bat. To compensate, some mid-game (~lvl 10, so when game starts to get more forgivable) enemies got a slight stat boost.

Hello again!

As promised with last State of the Game, I come to you with "final" version of Divinion. Forgive me for the delay; when I was writing my last post, the ending was already done, but changes made to overall stroyboard forced me to switch things a little. As a result, large chunk of final chapter had to be either redone or scrapped entirely.

To be clear, new content in Apex is not that long, at least compared to 1.0. However, 2.0 brings not only a new adventure, but also some changes to previous areas. First of all, early game enemies were made easier. On the other hand, some bosses have been tweaked to offer more resistance to more hardened parties. Crafting materials are a bit more abundant around the world. A few new conversations were added to fill some gaps within strory and lore. And of course, as per every update, armies of typos were mercilessly exterminated :)

Here's the download link for 2.0 I hope you'll enjoy the game!

*****

Ah, finally! Truth be told, those last few months have been a slog. Limitations of RPG Maker are beginning to weight on me, but I want to at least finish the Renan's story as it is. As I wrote two months ago, one of the reasons for how short Apex was, were my experimentations with various optional plugins and systems that could make the game more interesting. Problem is, I still didn't really find the satysfying answer 😪

However, one thing I can say for sure, and I know this is important for some of you, so I want to be clear. After some consideration, I've decided that last chapter will not follow the "evil" path, as some of
you might've understandably expect.
Why? To put it simply, the story would've been much, much worse. It's something I realized during
development of Divinion,
and confirmed during playing similar games: you can't make a good story with villain as a protagonist.
Period. You can make good game with a truly evil villain as a protagonist, you can make serviceable tale,
but a proper, lengthy story- nope. It just doesn't work. So, I'd rather finish on a high note and disappoint
some of you than struggle with something I don't like and have it turn out mediocre at best.
After all, outside of strory, Divinion doesn't have any advantages.

On the other hand, there's my side project, which I mentioned in most recent post. That's where I
make use of my darker urges :) It's actually quite fleshed out already and certainly offers more content
than many H-games released in current scene, but considering its genre (it's bascially Fire Emblem-like
SRPG), it needs more extensive testing. However, early build will definitely be released before a sequel to
Divinion :) So - stay tuned. Tjord out!

DarkLordRiseshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03348387181419969429noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1783882296473723006.post-76953242935732720952019-12-14T21:25:00.002+01:002019-12-14T21:31:02.385+01:00State of the Game: 2.0 "Apex" update
Hello guys, long time no see! Forgive me, I really forgot to update you on my progress. A lot has happened since last release, so let me give you quick update on status of the game.

First of all, I had to modify my plans. Initially, I planned Divinion 2.0 to contain entire last arc of the story, and continue from the base game. This had to be scrapped for two reasons:

- Despite my best efforts, I gave up on RPG Maker-style combat. I simply ran out of ideas how to make it fun. Furthermore, most complains about the game were focused on combat and early combat balance. Because of that, I decided to completely redefine my approach to the combat systems.
- I came with quite neat idea about certain gameplay systems, but it's impossible to implement within framework provided by current Divinion.

There's also third reason, though much less important: I'll be switching from HoneySelect to Koikatsu models for H-scenes. They simply fit story and aesthetics of Divinion much, much better.

Therefore, I decided to have last arc of the story to be once again, a separate game - while Divinion's story arc will be finished in a short last chapter that shall come out around New Year's. The update, aside from new content, will also include some tweaks that should make game easier in the early stages.

To be honest, last few months I've been fiddling with a prototype of a different game, - it started as testing ground for a new ideas, but grew so big, I might release it some day. For now, however, I will work to release Divinion 2.0 ASAP - as for wherever I will focus on this new project or dishing out final part of Renan's trilogy, I will decide after Christmas.

Thank you for your patience, and hopefully, see you before 2020.
This time it's only bugfixes, since I'm still on a break from development.

Here's the download link.

Changelog:
-Fixed a bug which allowed players to reap rewards from "The Crown of Sunder" indefinitely
-Fixed a bug which prevented further uses of artroscope in Valdir after first, failed attempt
-Fixed a bug in which lady wife in "Full Metal Panic" would not allow the party to leave her house.
-Several other minor bugfixes.
-Added short after-ending scene for patrons, foreshadowing further events :)

Also, regarding issue of Noblesse Oblige that pops up here and there from time to time:
a) No, I am not currently working on that project nor have plans to
b) In fact, I lost HS models for the game some time ago, so I'll basically have to start from the scratch
c) I have very small side-project going on with similar themes (heavy corruption, more serious, but not sentai), and if I were to spend time on something besides Divinion, I'd rather work on that.DarkLordRiseshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03348387181419969429noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1783882296473723006.post-56962125560399969942019-05-02T09:30:00.000+02:002019-05-02T09:30:02.255+02:00Divinion - 1.0.0

Now, as I've indicated month ago, I've decided it's time to start valuing myself and <strike>beg for money</strike> allow my precious fans to support my work with some of their hard earned cash. I was never keen on Patreon, which seems main platform for majority of adult content creators, but after some research I've decided in the end that this is the way to go. Bloody taxes. Anyway, if you like my games and have some spare funds lying around, please do consider supporting me.

I hope you'll enjoy the game. As for me, I need some break to refuel my creative juices. For now, I'll take it easy, but you can still expect at least one bugfixing release, which may also contain patreon-exclusive after-credits scene (unrelated to the story).

Changelog:

-Added true ending. To see it, you must first reach Good Ending though (should work with saves from 0.9.5, load a save from before the coronation)

-Various improvements regarding graphical assets & HUD

-Added short, quick adventure near Ohsenford. There's no quest, just a small optional dungeon with a few fights to gain some resources early in the game.

-Changes to status menu: elements are now displayed with corresponding icons, proficiency page replaced parameters page

-Sparkling magical bust is no longer sparkling nor magical

-Added option to speed up battle animations

-Added several new codex entries

-Fixed a bug which caused a dungeon from "Saving Private Reichmann" to appear way too early on the map

-Fixed several minor bugs and typos

-Minor tweaks to skills: Charge, Ferocious Beating, Sundering Blow, Engage, Healing Hands

-Rebalanced some enemies & encounters: early monsters attack is a bit weaker, some late-game bosses are more dangerous.

Happy easter!

I've got a confession to make.
Truth be told, ever since I started working on The Dark Lord Rises, I had certain problems writing corruption-related and other "evil" scenes. To put it bluntly, I disliked their, what I perceived, poor quality, how far from my original intent they ended up. I don't know why, maybe it's because of my natural silliness and optimistic nature, but I thought myself unsuited for this kind of content.
Therefore, in the middle of writing Divinion, I decided to change the course a little and get Renan back to the light side. In one of earliest dev diaries I mentioned two planned endings - one "good" and one... "less good". This idea was ultimately scrapped and I've amalgamated both into an ending which ended up in a 0.9.0 release.
Now, when I read comments that being "evil" was the best part of TDLR, I am quite conflicted. On the one hand, it gives me necessary confidence to write darker storylines. On the other, I feel itching need to rewrite final parts of Divinions to add previously removed "Evil" ending, which means more work and delayed final release.
Oh well, screw it. There will be the Evil Ending. Not in 0.9.5 though, because it's simply too much work, and I want to get some bugfixes out ASAP. Keep your saves folder, because it might come handy; getting "good" ending will be necessary to obtain "true" ending.
Also, the story ends in "good" ending, while in "true" ending, storyline will be continued past 1.0.0 release. Just sayin'.

Anyway, here's the download link for 0.9.5.

Extended epilogue scene to a full "Good Ending".

Fixed several issues with the new sprites, including dimembered lady Glendover and invisible Priest

Fixed bug related preventing players from entering Royal Palace in Akerman under certain conditions

I think we've already established I'm pretty trendy guy. And what's the hottest trend in gaming industry? Of course, day one patches! So, here you go: patch 0.9.1 for Divinion! This is, of course, a testament to my dedication and work, not a result of shabby QA and lazy testing.

In all seriousness, I give my thanks to those who reported first bugs in the game.

Here's the download link.

Changelog:

Fixed a bug which allowed players to exit Morgiana Lake prematurely (talk to guy with red hat to move the story along).

Added set of icons to weapons and armor (indicating wherever they are one- or two- handed, their attack element, and in case of armor - their class). This will work only in items acquired after upgrading to 0.9.1 build.

Gems attached to staves now work properly. This will also only apply to gems acquired after upgrading to 0.9.1.

"Invisible" boundary on world map is now visible

Fixed invisible walls on Royal Square in Akerman (how did THIS elude me during testing is a mystery of ages).

Fixed a few typos

0.9.1 is obviously save-compatible with 0.9.0. Just move your saves (divinion/www/save) to a corresponding folder in a new build.DarkLordRiseshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03348387181419969429noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1783882296473723006.post-22966893581705361612019-04-07T20:54:00.000+02:002019-04-07T20:54:19.374+02:00Divinion - RELEASEFi-na-lly!

Gentlemen (and ladies), after long year of work, I can finally present you:

DIVINION 0.9.0

Thankfully, this time I wasn't overly optimistic. Going against current, well, currents :) in h-game development, Divinion offers you 11-13 hours of boring gameplay, convoluted story and shitty erotic scenes. Yes, the game is as long as all previous chapters of The Dark Lord Rises combined.

Why 0.9 then? Because, going along other currents, this time in overall gaming industry, I present you with post-release roadmap of incoming features. So in other words, full 1.0 release, aside from major bugfixes, should include:

More H-scenes

Improved graphics (sprites & icons)

Rebalanced itemization, passive skills and item enchantments

Two additional quests

Improved prologue (including short recap of events in TDLR) and after-credits scene.

Also, I'll probably put the game on some service which would allow those kind souls who want to support me (I mean, I kinda spent over 1000 h on this build, let me shill a bit) financially.

Of course, game will remain 100% free, always.

Anyway, enjoy!

And remember to always stock on Field Supplies

DarkLordRiseshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03348387181419969429noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1783882296473723006.post-57544268493708258232019-03-31T07:06:00.000+02:002019-03-31T07:06:03.700+02:00State of the Game - MarchHello guys. Today it'll be quick.

A) My HDD got busted. Thankfully, I had fresh backup on spare disc, so it had no impact on development pace. Unfortunately, it will have impact on immediate quality of the game, since I lost my carefully modded Honey Select :( CG for all H-scenes is complete, so there's no problem on that, but first release will have some placeholder images there and there, unfortunately :(

B) Game is now fully playable from start to finish (at least one of two routes), but still needs some testing - at least one more playthrough.

C) To be more precise, one playthrough from my side amounts to +- 10 h. If coupled with time necessary to iron bugs (another 10 h?) and compared to my free time, I'd estimate the game won't be released at least until 7-8th April (and only if I don't find anything major to fix again). I'm sorry, guess I got overly optimistic in last diary again.

Hope to see you again soon!

DarkLordRiseshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03348387181419969429noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1783882296473723006.post-30044187426863019772019-02-17T15:56:00.002+01:002019-02-17T16:11:25.580+01:00State of the Game - FebruaryHello again guys, in what is probably last State of the Game post before release. Those three weeks since last post were very fruitful. First of all, the mechanics of the game are finally fully implemented*. Second, I started writing H-scenes - three are already done, (at least) seven more are to follow. See that number to the right? Yeah, my estimates were correct, Divinion will be only slightly shorter than entire The Dark Lord Rises :)

Current ETA of the game is mid-March. Might be sooner, if I find no game-breaking bugs, but I think it's a safe estimate.

That's all from the development side, time to show-off some features. For starters, game will have some basic crafting system:

It's nothing fancy, but it gives another intriguing layer of complexity to the game. Contrary to TDLR, majority of fancier items are crafted, not found (especially armors).

Another interesting thing is in-game codex, containing wealth of lore. For those who barely remember story and characters from TDLR, it will also remind you of what you forgot.

Contrary to chaotic skill system of TDLR, in Divinion character skills are standardized and better balanced. Every character possesses 9 main skills + ultimate skill + three passive skills. Some skills though have subskills, and one character has two ultimates.

One of many complaints about TDLR weas its economy; gold was scarce, and so were shops and potions, which made game needlessly hard. This problem goes away in Divinion; there's much more gold given to player, shops are abundant, and while potions are still expensive (for a reason), new, cheap item "Field Supplies" will restore character's HP and MP outside the battle. Not only that, Field Supplies are tied to a banters, a set of 10-15 flavorful dialogues that would give characters opportunity to interact with one another.

By the way, that's just random screenshot, not related to banters or economy :)

Finally, H-scenes are also improved compared to TLDR, since I simply got better in using Honey Select :) Also, like was the case with Noblesse Oblige, they aren't tied to longass walls of text, and instead rely more on what men love the most: images :)

I'm on fire today (finally some holidays, yay!) , so I'll make it quick:

-Just now I've finished main story of Divinion. This means I can finally move to some basic testing and applying flavour there and there. There are still some parts of the game (namely, H-scenes, quests related to them and some lore) that require input, but main work is finally done. Yay!

-I realized only now, but Divinion will probably be as long as at least two chapters (so two-thirds) of The Dark Lord Rises. And of higher quality too!

-Writing climax to this arc took me entire two days. It's long, epic and I'll probably have to spend another day just testing it :(

-If you don't remember what happened in TDLR, there's no need to replay the game to remind yourself of characters and lore . There'll be in-game encyclopedia containing interesting bits about characters, locations and other concepts Renan & co. encountered during their adventures.

-Oh right: some members of Alba class will finally make their come back!

That will be all for today. Traditionally, catch some screenshots, just to increase your appetite.
Forgive me for not writing an update last month, but there was nothing really interesting to report. Late October, I've caught a bad case of the writing block, and unfortunately it doesn't want to let go. At a worst place too, since I'm now writing the penultimate, largest and the most important quest in the entire chapter :( Unfortunately, this means I won't be able to keep my own deadline (New Year). Worse, it seems I won;t get my planned Christmas holidays :(((

Still, I made some progress, just not as much as I wanted. I've focused mostly on technical side of the game, wrote some H-material, tested soundtrack and polished certain graphical assets. Those usually go last in my development process, so it will cut me some work after the core game is complete.

That's all for this month. Grab some screenshots and Merry Christmas!
Worked mainly on mechanics, got over some hurdles, but story is

However, I finally decided on the name of the game.

And yes, it's not a remake. Divinion will continue the story from The Dark Lord Rises.

I'll have short holidays in November, should make some progress then.DarkLordRiseshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03348387181419969429noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1783882296473723006.post-29586727641435042732018-09-22T17:26:00.003+02:002018-09-22T17:31:20.087+02:00State of the game - September

Hello guys, I salute you for your patience :) Fortunately, recent month has been quite fruitful and I managed to keep with my schedule. But without unnecessary talk, what about the progress?

A) STORY is around 80% done. What remains to be done are basically two largest quests, one side quest and a climax, as well as some polishing and flavour here and there. I've also finally finished the outline for the entire story.

B) MECHANICS are 60% done. This has been my focus for the last three weeks, as first tests revealed that my initial plan - to have more "western" approach to mechanics - was suited neither for RPG Maker, nor the story. However, as I rummaged through various RPG maker communities and tinkered with the game myself, i managed to scrape a few interesting systems. My focus has been battles, which was always RPG Maker's weak side - I'm currently reworking things here and there, to make it more exciting. I even thought about copying Octopath Traveler's systems, but that unfortunately is impossible to do because of both engine limitations, as well as established lore. More interesting battle system will allow me to make gameplay more varied, as I initially thought of limiting combat encounters to minimum (still, some seemingly combat-intensive quests have an alternative approach).

As usual with TDLR, grind is reduced to minimum. Currently, killing monsters gives no XP points - those can be obtained only through completing quests. I am still contemplating on this tough, and there's still a reward for those who dutifully slay every opponent possible.

C) As I mentioned month ago, H-content is one the last thing to be added.

Overall, things look pretty good! Seems like December release date is still possible. Thank you for still following my dev blog!
My holidays passed by like a fly, but at least I managed to achieve a very nice progress during those last two weeks.
Now, let me split my report into three parts:

A) STORY is around 60% done. However, first release should contain way more content than entire Ugovarti arc for TDLR, even after necessary cuts. Basic structure resembles Marania act, except the plot is more intervened and tightly knit. The main storyline follows a succession war in a certain kingdom, amidst which Renan and his friends will discover a very nefarious plot. Also, release will also contain alternative ending to the story, giving Renan's journey an early, satisfying finish.

B) MECHANICS are done in only around 30%. Unfortunately, one of the plugins I relied on decided to stop working for me, and now I have to design an workaround. Overall however, as I mentioned in a previous post, the game will differ somewhat from usual RPG maker experience; character progression is a bit more flat, equipment matters greatly, there's also some crafting. Experience can be only obtained from completed quests, and some of them have alternative, less battle-heavy route.
For those who disliked economy of TDLR, there's also much more currency being thrown at player, as well as reliable way to replenish HP & MP during the adventure.

C) Only 5% of H-SCENES are done. I usually leave them for the last. There should be around 10-12 scenes, all skippable. 1/3 of them happened during main storyline, 1/3 is a result of player's choices, and 1/3 are a quest rewards. Alternative ending will also contain h-scene.

Overall, I'm quite pleased how much work I managed to do those last two weeks. I believe you can expect release around late December, though it will depend on amount of test runs the game will require. I'll also try to write similar report every month to keep you guys updated. See you next month then!DarkLordRiseshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03348387181419969429noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1783882296473723006.post-41713945727136695592018-07-31T21:41:00.001+02:002018-07-31T21:42:39.720+02:00A development diary (of sorts)Hello guys! Long time no see. I bring some good new. At least, I managed to squeeze some holidays from my boss, which means for the next two weeks I can finally make some serious progress. Until now, it was... ehh... let me use image to illustrate the situation.

That's our favourite technicolor mage, Angela, or rather, how her projected visage changed during the development (and I'll probably still make some adjustments, because I ~~love~ her design). Entire process until now has been like that - I make something, get dissatisfied, start anew.

In fact, I even thought about changing protagonist and story entirely - but finally decided against it. And since I'm already at the stage where I simply don;t want to make any more changes to the general outline, here are some answers to the questions I've been getting recently:

-Yes, the story will continue from 0.3.4, though in a different place than Ugovarti (heh :)). Renan is still the protagonist.
-If you hated the end of act 2, rejoice! No more gender-bending of major characters.
-The game will be less corruption-oriented. I pondered about it for a long time, and in the end decided that if in the first game Renan was the (wannabe) corruptor, this time the villain takes this mantle. The story resembles a bit more classic heroic fantasy than it did before.
-Entire RPG/battle system is being reworked. I don't have time and skill for anything major, but it should differ somehow from basic RPG Maker fare..., unlike previous TDLR.
-The title for the sequel will definitely WON'T be The Dark Lord Rises 2 :) (or 0.3.5 for that matter).

I'll try to make another entry mid-august to update you on my progress during the holidays. Until then, for those who like me adore cartography, here's the new, updated map of the world of TDLR.

DarkLordRiseshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03348387181419969429noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1783882296473723006.post-46572373916366622472018-04-08T15:38:00.002+02:002018-04-08T15:39:26.684+02:00Dark Lord shall rise... no... return!Hello guys. So, as mentioned in my previous post, I recently got my hands on RPG Maker MV and been tinkering with it to my great enjoyment. While there are some problem here and there, I feel new engine fixes at least some problems I had with with VX Ace. So, I finally decided.

The Dark Lord Rises will be back!

That comes to me especially easy since it seems that no one bothered with continuing my original project (or at least, is hiding it from me :>). Also, since I learned the software as I created TDLR, there are some shortcuts and solutions in original that made my head ache over and over during development. I can avoid most of those starting a new game with MV.

Now, this means Noblesse Oblige for now goes to the side*. Well, that's one of the reasons why I don't bother with Patreon; I like to work on something I like, not force myself to reach some deadline or other commitment.

When shall new Dark Lord come out? Christmas, probably, autumn at best. I'd like it to be more than prologue and short story arc, and to tinker with graphics some more, so the game at least doesn't look like generic RPGMaker product.
